Proper Link Text

Hyper Links should be provided in a descriptive format in context with the rest of the copy. For example if you are linking to the "Student Code of Conduct" you would link to this in the following fashion:

Example of proper link text:

"Welcome to the UNK family! By choosing to join the community, each member agrees to comply with certain standards of civilized behavior. Therefore, the University of Nebraska at Kearney adopts this Student Code of Conduct."

Do not use "click here" as link text. This does not provide users with information on what the link is and it doesn't provide search engines with useful information on the link.

Example of improper link text:

You can download the Student Code of Conduct by clicking here.

Link Titles

All links should have the "link title" filled in. Link titles provide more descriptive information about the link to screen readers. Link titles also create tool tip hover overs that allow a person to see where the link is going to. If titles aren't filled in screen readers and tool tips will read the url of the link (https://www.unk.edu/offices/reslife/_documents/university-of-nebraska-at-kearney-student-code-of-conduct.pdf) which is confusing and does not describe what is being linked to.
